"Open the Box" weekly Draw- Rules of the Game
Play Summary
Open the Box is played in
2 phases. The first phase is a weekly raffle. Tickets will be on sale
from the Saturday until the following Friday. The winner of the raffle
then has the chance to open a box containing an amount of money, using a
key drawn from a bag containing 13 possible keys (first game!).
If the key fits and the
box opens, the winner will receive the contents of the box (20% is
deducted
which is donated to the Air Ambulance.) If the key does not fit, the
prize money is increased from the raffle takings for the next draw, and
the key is set aside; therefore one less key for the next draw..
To protect the prize
against one-off participation further down the cycle when the prize
money can theoretically be large, there will be a ‘signing up’ period,
in that entry will be closed after the first 3 weekly raffles. If a
person has not already ‘signed up’ by taking part in any or all of the
first 3 raffles, it cannot be joined if the process continues for
subsequent weeks and the jackpot is not won. Likewise, a person signing
up correctly can only miss a maximum of three draws further into
the cycle and will not be able to rejoin if the box has so far, not been
opened.
The Raffle
The only way a person can
get the entitlement to open the box is to win the raffle beforehand.
Raffle numbers (or lines on a raffle sheet) will be on sale from 6.00pm
on a Saturday and will cost £1 for one number. The raffle will close and
be drawn on the following Friday evening. Tickets will be on sale all
week, and must be paid for in cash only.
The Friday raffle draw
will take place at or before 10.00pm on a Friday The person holding the
winning number has to be present in the building at the time. If this is
not the case, the number is redrawn.
Open the Box
A bag containing keys is
offered to the raffle winner, only one of which will open the box. The
box will contain a promise of the amount of money advertised as the winnings.
For the first game in the
cycle, there will be the full complement of 13 keys. If, on the first
game the correct key is not drawn, the number of keys is reduced by one
each time (i.e. each non-fitting key is left out of the bag) until the
correct key is drawn and the box is opened in subsequent weeks.
The amount of winnings is
increased for each attempted opening each week, with an amount dependent
on the raffle takings minus any running costs and deduction of initial
stake monies. When the prize money is won, the pot reverts to the
startup amount for the next draw and the cycle repeats.
Organisers: J & D Slade, The Baskerville Arms, Clyro. Raffle Tickets
cost £1 each and will be on sale all week.
Prize money variable upwards from £50. Drawn Weekly every Friday
evening before 10.00pm.
